I have been to a few of these conventions and have enjoyed every one.  The last one had Colin Baker singing the Timelord Song (it’s on YouTube)

The sketches are brilliant.   (also on YouTube)

Doctor Who Companions

Last week I went to a small Doctor Who event in Bedford (UK) – Bedford Who Charity Con -where Three Former Companions of The Doctor from the 1960s – Patrick Troughton’s Doctor, the 1970s – Jon Pertwee’s Doctor and the 1980’s – Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor, were appearing along side John Leeson the voice of K9  The tickets were a little pricey but it was a Charity Event for the Bedford Food Bank which is providing emergency food for 500 children and adults a month.

It was also the day that they announced the name of the actress to play the new companion to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor.  There was lost of laughter when  Sophie Aldred, Katy Manning and Deborah Watling discussed the merits of the different type of shoes they wore whilst a companion. (Doc Martins, Hobnail boots and high heels (platform).

What also was interesting was on my journey to the convention a Dalek (with helper)  was trundling alongside a fairly main road and nobody was batting an eyelid as it used a zebra crossing.

All in all it was a great day out.

Classic Doctor Who is Back

On the Horror Channel at Easter. I am looking to get re-acquainted with the original cybermen, Ograns, The Wirren, The Thals, The Kaleds, The Green Death, The Sontaruns, to name but a few. And as for companions- Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith, Tegan, Nissa, Adric. Ace who loved her Nitro Nine and attacking Daleks with a baseball bat and called the Doctor ‘Professor’

Ouch!

Ouch!

Not Long Now

Until they name the actor to play the next Doctor…..my preference is for an older actor to take on the role. One of earliest memories of Doctor Who is when Jon Pertwee was cast as the 3rd Doctor.
Other actors followed in William Hartnells shoes, each bringing a different angle to the Doctor. And to the assistants, from Susan, Barbara and Ian, through Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith, Tegan, Ace, Donna Noble and all the others each an assistant of the times, some more feisty than others but all adding to the mythology of Doctor Who, and those from the spin offs, Torchwoods Captain Jack and Gwen Cooper, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, Luke, Clyde and Rani (Clani!)both appearing with different Doctors.
Thank you Russell for bringing Doctor Who Back, and thank you Stephen Moffett keeping it going.

Lost and Found – Short Trips

Today I found a very old audio tape of Doctor Who short stories read by Nicholas Courtney (RIP) and Sophie Aldred.  The last time I remember listening to the tape was a few years ago one hot day when driving home topless (my car that is) and the blast of the theme music causing all the school kids in the street to turn and look……..as they recognized the sound from the new series of Doctor Who that had just begun……Now all I have to do is find some thing to play it on.
