Keeping a Notebook Handy

I always try to carry a notebook whenever I go out, to jot down ideas, sentences, fully blown short stories (if I am lucky) If on the odd occasion I am without a notebook it means a quick trip to the nearest newsagent or supermarket to buy something to write on.

I am a visual writer in that if I see something interesting I will write a piece about it.  Thank Heavens for camera phones!

It is also useful to make a note of any scents – the smell of freshly baked bread, real coffee beans.  The smell of freshly mown grass.  The country smell of cow pats!

So if you see someone sitting in a corner scribbling away frantically it could just be me!

Or maybe it’s just a trick of the light……..

  1. I need to start keeping a flashlight and notebook next to my bed. My dreams are the stuff Clive Barker books are made of.

  2. That is truly a fantastic idea…I should try that. There have been plenty of times I have had a good idea, and even written it in my head, but when I get home several hours later I have forgotten it.

    • Also if you don’t have a notebook handy you can use a different memory recall by associating the memory of the idea with an action.
