A Soft Day

My grandmother, and mother would have called today ‘A Soft Day’ It’s been raining on and off all day, more of a drizzle than showers.  The wind has died down, the temperature has dropped but it is not cold.  The sun is hidden behind the low clouds.  If you listen carefully you can hear birds singing.  Not the vibrant songs of last week, just the calls to one another. A solitary cat walks into my garden, no longer looking for shade.

As a youngster on holiday in Ireland, we would often experience ‘A Soft Day’  I would spend the day sitting at the front door of my grandparents cottage, on the little step (my grandparents lived in identical cottages’ sometimes reading the latest Enid Blyton book I had purchased in Woolworths in Clonmel (paying the taxes that bumped up the price by 6d) as I had read all the books I had brought with me.  Or filling in countless notebooks with short stories about children who climbed over the dry stone walls and met up with Leprechauns, Banshees and Pookas.

It was on days like this I could let my imagination run wild!

Funnily enough, today I have found my self sitting in the shelter of the doorway to my house, as soft rain quietly falls around me, wondering what could be behind the moss covered stone wall – letting my imagination run and jump wildly in the air. Maybe I will go and have a look!

Don’t forget the Trees

On my walks, be it along the riverbank at lunchtime, or on a birdwatching trip to a local nature reserve or country park; you will always find trees.

They may not always be the focal point of the shot.

Radio Days

Recently I have been listening to various radio stations throughout the day, most days I wake up to a national radio station, in the car it is a local station (for traffic updates etc.) Lunch times it’s headphones on, listening to a regular show, sometimes the interviews are sad and sometimes they are more uplifting.
Recently I have been listening to a ‘pop up’ station that played Country Music.
Saturday mornings is housework time and ‘Treasure Quest’  where two teams from neighbouring radio stations vie to find the treasure in their area before each other, but mostly they want to beat the ‘Evil Les’ the quizmaster.

Mindfulness

Or just Daydreaming

I have always been a daydreamer, I would often tuck myself away in a corner as  a child so I could have  daydream time to my self.  Now of course I no longer need to tuck my self away but I do take a time out for a daydream or two, It helps with inspiration for my writing and if outside I often find the local wildlife popping around to take a peek at me, not to mention the neighbours cats who always sense when I am in the garden and hop up onto my lap to have a quick snooze while I sit in my deck chair with a mug of tea and a hot buttered scone.
